School of Rock Broomfield Midseason Show (Grunge)

I recently performed 3 songs at the School of Rock Broomfield midseason show – Even Flow by Pearl Jam, Violet by Hole, and Outshined by Soundgarden:

Nat (my vocal teacher) gave me shit for wearing shorts on stage, but click the hyperlink above to the Even Flow video and you’ll see what I was going for…

Outshined is a little rough around the edges (sang the lower notes a little pitchy, sang the whole performance a little further ‘back’ than ‘forward’ so it doesn’t have the same feel to it as a Cornell song), but I’m sharing it here mainly because I started singing because of this song and I was promising myself I’d at least try to sing it live.

Even with it being a little average, I’m happy with my performance since I usually get a dry throat while singing out of nervousness (even if I’ve downed a lot of water) and it completely kills my range and notes – in this case I feel I hit most of the notes in a passable way and just need to tweak the tone and grit in a few areas.

We will add some new songs – Daughter by Pearl Jam, Them Bones by Alice in Chains – to the list that I’ll be singing on (and potentially one or two more). End of season show is December 12th and I’ll compare the performances then!
